New Year’s resolutions. For so many of us, they’re an annual ritual full of lofty promises to lose weight, save more money, or finally learn to cook something other than pasta. But how many of those resolutions have actually stuck? Probably not as many as you hoped.
It’s time to flip the script.
If your life is anything like mine, you’ve spent years balancing the demands of a career, family, and everything in between. You’ve been the caregiver, the problem solver, and the multitasker. But this New Year, what if you made a different kind of resolution? One that puts YOU at the center. What if your goal was to be a little selfish—and not in the guilty, self-indulgent way, but in the way that empowers you to become your best self?
Being Selfish Isn’t Selfishness—It’s Self-Respect
Let’s unpack this: Prioritizing yourself doesn’t mean that you are neglecting others. It means you’re honoring your own needs, aligning your life with your values, and tapping into what makes you thrive. This isn’t about making you feel good in the short term; it’s about ensuring that you are functioning physically, mentally, and emotionally at your very best and truly thriving!
As women, we’re often conditioned to put others first. We wear ourselves thin, thinking that if we just give a little more, we’ll make everyone happy. But let’s be honest—when was the last time you truly felt fulfilled, energized, and in tune with yourself?
This year, I want to challenge you to approach your resolutions with a radical shift: ground your intentions in what makes you come alive. What excites your spirit? What fuels your creativity? What makes you feel powerful, resilient, and unapologetically you?
Where to begin when setting New Year's Resolutions? Inspiration for A Whole-Person Approach to Thriving
You are a complex, dynamic being. Thriving doesn’t just mean fitting into a smaller size of jeans or finally organizing that closet. It’s about weaving together every aspect of who you are: your health, your wellness, your personal growth, and your evolving sense of purpose. It’s about blending those elements into a life that feels authentically and wonderfully yours.
Thriving comes from weaving together and nurturing every aspect of who you are.
Think about the different dimensions of wellness: physical, emotional, social, intellectual, spiritual, and occupational. Consider how each one of these areas has played a role in shaping your experiences, especially over the last few years. Draw from your resilience, your knowledge, and your unique life journey. Now, imagine what it would look like if you crafted your resolutions with all these dimensions in mind.

As you look for New Year's Resolution's inspiration, keep each wellness dimension in mind. For some aspects, you may be doing great. In those cases, plan to keep up the momentum and foster what’s working well for you. For the areas you’ve been neglecting or struggling with, be sure to include an intention to improve that area of your wellness – because you deserve it!
Physical Wellness: What Makes You Feel Alive?
This isn’t about pushing yourself to run marathons (unless that’s your thing). It’s about listening to your body and understanding what makes it feel strong, agile, and energetic. Maybe it’s discovering a love for hiking, joining a dance class, or simply committing to getting better sleep. The goal isn’t just to “get fit”—it’s to cultivate a relationship with your body where you genuinely enjoy the ways you care for it.
Emotional Wellness: Honoring Your Inner Voice
How often do you allow yourself to truly feel and process your emotions? This year, focus on cultivating emotional resilience. Create space to explore what you feel, why you feel it, and how you can use those insights to grow. It’s okay to feel vulnerable—it’s a sign that you’re still evolving. Maybe this means setting boundaries that honor your emotional needs or seeking out therapy that helps you untangle long-held anxieties. Remember, strength isn’t about being unbreakable; it’s about being flexible and resilient, like a tree that bends with the wind instead of snapping.
Social Wellness: Nurturing Relationships That Lift You Up
As we navigate life, our sense of community often shifts. Old friendships fade, new ones form, and our priorities change. This is your time to reassess who you’re spending time with and seek out connections that genuinely support and inspire you. Let go of toxic ties that drain your energy, and instead, surround yourself with people who encourage your growth and cheer for your successes.
Intellectual Wellness: Feed Your Curiosity
What have you always wanted to learn or explore? This year, instead of focusing on what you should do, focus on what intrigues you. Learn a new skill, dive into a subject you’ve always been curious about, or simply commit to reading more. Intellectual wellness isn’t about adding another achievement to your resume; it’s about nurturing a mind that’s alive with curiosity and wonder.
Spiritual Wellness: Cultivate Inner Peace and Purpose
Whether you find it through meditation, nature, faith, or quiet reflection, spiritual wellness is about connecting to something greater than yourself. What gives your life meaning? This isn’t about adhering to a specific doctrine; it’s about exploring what aligns with your core values and finding practices that bring you peace, clarity, and a grounding point when everything else seems chaotic in your life.
Occupational Wellness: Redefine What Career Success Looks Like for You
Your life’s work (career, caretaker, entrepreneur, etc.) is a significant part of your well-being. Still, it shouldn’t be the only thing that defines you. Reflect on what drives you. Is it the satisfaction of a job well done, or is it the freedom to pursue a passion project on the side? This year, consider how to blend your professional life with your personal aspirations. Seek balance, not just achievement. Ensure your professional life doesn’t infringe on your other aspects of well-being. It has an important place; it shouldn’t be consuming.
Design Your Future with Courage and Clarity
As you enter the new year, don’t just set resolutions. Design your future. Be courageous in your thinking. Draw from the lessons you’ve learned and the resilience you’ve built. Set intentions that reflect the person you are now and the person you are still becoming.
Take a moment to ask yourself: “What do I really want?” Not what you’ve been told to want, not what others expect of you, but what truly resonates with your soul. And don’t be afraid to be bold. Be brave enough to want more and to pursue it with intention.
This Year, It’s All About You
Think of your resolutions as the pieces of a mosaic. Each one might be a small step, but together, they form a beautiful, complete picture of your whole self. So, let’s make 2025 the year of YOU! Let this be the year when you stop settling for less and when you stop playing small. Let this be the year you put yourself first, not because you’re selfish, but because you understand that the best way to serve others is by nurturing the best version of yourself.
This New Year, don’t resolve to change—resolve to evolve. Embrace the Future You Want—Because You Deserve It.
Happy New Year, and here’s to a bold, bright, and beautiful future—fueled by you.
Plan to Thrive in ‘25
